The central gyroscopic vertical is a biaxial gyro-stabilized platform. It is designed to determine the position of the aircraft relative to the horizon, measure the angles of deviation from the position of the horizon and the issuance of signals proportional to these deviations, using potentiometric sensors to consumers (autopilot, horizon indicator, etc.).
TsGV-4 has two gyros 4 and 12 with two degrees of freedom. The precession axes of the gyroscopes x1 and y2 are perpendicular to each other, in the initial position the x1 axis is parallel to the x axis of the inner frame of the gimbal and the aircraft transverse axis, and the y2 axis is parallel to the outer frame axis of the gimbal and longitudinal axis of the aircraft.
